Imphal: A persistent bandh in Senapti is causing significant economic hardship for local workers, particularly farmers, florists, and small shop owners. With transport routes blocked and markets inaccessible, these individuals are unable to sell their goods, leading to widespread financial losses.
Florists and farmers are feeling the brunt of the shutdown during their peak harvest season. Many have been forced to sell flowers for as little as 20 rupees per bulb, netting only a few rupees in profit. Some farmers have been left with no choice but to give their crops away as the flowers wither without buyers. One farmer noted that months of hard work and care have been wasted due to the lack of market access.
Vendors selling perishables like fruits and vegetables are facing a similar crisis. Their inventory is spoiling rapidly, causing mounting debt and uncertainty for those who rely on daily income. Affected residents are now calling on authorities to step in and provide support or ease the restrictions to prevent further damage to their livelihoods.
