Imphal: A delegation representing the Liangmai Naga Council and the Liangmai Naga Women Union met with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday to advocate for the immediate release of six men. The group, which includes a pastor, was allegedly abducted by unidentified armed individuals from Konsakhul village in the Kangpokpi district on May 13. During the meeting, tribal leaders formally requested that if the men are no longer alive, the government must ensure their remains are returned to their families to facilitate proper last rites.
Beyond the rescue efforts, the delegation submitted a joint memorandum from the Liangmai Naga Council, the Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi, and the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi outlining their urgent grievances. They also requested the deployment of additional state police forces to vulnerable Liangmai villages in the region to bolster resident safety.
In response to these concerns, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh confirmed that state police and the Central Reserve Police Force are actively conducting combing operations in suspected areas to locate the missing individuals. Emphasizing the need for regional stability, the Chief Minister appealed for calm and urged all communities to refrain from violence while cooperating with government initiatives to restore normalcy.
