Kohima: The Leiriechazou Panchayat put local shop owners on notice Saturday. A surprise inspection of Ward No. 16 under the Kohima Municipal Council exposed multiple businesses operating without trade licences. Local officials and volunteers led the sweep.
The inspection team included members of the Panchayat, the village GB, and representatives from local youth and women organizations. They acted on direct orders from the Ward No. 16 KMC councillor. Authorities seized various expired food items from the shelves. These goods were destroyed immediately. Shops must follow the rules. Officials ordered owners to get their paperwork in order to align with KMC mandates.
The Panchayat issued a firm ultimatum following the raid. Future failures to renew licenses or any continued sale of expired products will lead to severe consequences. The organization stated that such actions "would result in permanent cancellation of business permits within the colony." Traders now have no room for error.
