Kohima: Krishi Vigyan Kendras across Nagaland are actively participating in the nationwide Khet Bachao Campaign to promote sustainable agricultural practices. Running throughout June, the initiative focuses on soil health management, water conservation, and the transition toward natural farming methods to ensure long term food security.

In Dimapur, the local KVK partnered with the Bharatiya Janata Kisan Morcha to host an awareness event for farmers from the Green Hills Farmer Producer Company. Technical experts provided demonstrations on creating organic inputs like Jeevamrut and Ghan Jeevamrut while advising attendees on the balanced use of fertilizers. The event concluded with the distribution of agricultural resources, including rabbit feed, row markers, and Assam lemon saplings.

Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, head of KVK Zunheboto, noted that the campaign serves as a vital call to action for local communities. He stated that the effort is, "a collective call to action for farmers, village institutions and youth to safeguard agriculture and ensure long term food security." His team has already reached more than 1,800 farmers across 16 villages through field demonstrations and the provision of bio fertilizers.

The central government launched the month-long program under the theme Healthy Soil, Healthy Crop, Prosperous Farmer. Implementation involves a wide network of ICAR institutes, agricultural universities, and state departments working to reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers and encourage environmentally friendly farming systems.
