Imphal: Hundreds of Kuki-Zo women gathered at the Wall of Remembrance in Churachandpur on Friday. They demanded justice for Lenminsang Haokip. He died during a security operation in Manipur’s Henglep Sub-Division on June 16. The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights organized the protest.

The group wants a judicial inquiry led by a High Court judge within seven days. They submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The document demands the identification of the Central security personnel responsible for the shooting. It also calls for the release of the victim's post-mortem report and financial aid for his family.

Police claim the operation involved 21 Para Commandos and 19 Assam Rifles. They stated the target was a hideout for the United Kuki National Army. Agencies reported recovering an AK-47, ammunition, and explosives. Four others sustained injuries during the clash.

Local BJP MLA Letzamang Haokip rejects the official narrative. He insisted the deceased was a civilian and labeled the killing unacceptable. "The deceased was a civilian and termed the incident unacceptable," the MLA said. Authorities have opened an investigation into the shooting. Pressure on the government to ensure accountability continues to grow.
