Imphal: Kuki-Zo groups in Manipur are blocking Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand from visiting the district of Churachandpur. They claim the security situation makes his presence dangerous. The coalition says the visit is untimely and inappropriate given the ongoing ethnic conflict.

Kuki Civil Society Organisations issued a blunt warning on Friday. They declared that no Meitei official or government delegation may cross into their territory. This blockade stays in place until a political solution ends the current standoff. The Kuki Inpi Manipur urged the state leader to call off the trip. They fear his arrival will trigger violence.

The groups demand a separate administrative state with clear legislative safeguards. Tension has paralyzed movement between communities since May 2023. These regions remain strictly divided.

The joint statement from the Kuki-Zo leaders was clear. They stated, "Until a just and lasting solution to the Kuki-Zo-Meitei conflict is achieved, no Meitei individual, official, or delegation, including the Chief Minister of Manipur, will be permitted to enter our district."

The Chief Minister claims these visits serve as outreach efforts to build trust. Local groups see it differently. They argue such actions only widen the rift between divided populations.
