Imphal: A Kuki-Zo group in Manipur gave the government 48 hours to clear blockades on highways in the Kangpokpi district. The Committee on Tribal Unity issued the ultimatum late Sunday following a meeting with local civil groups. The clock started at midnight.

CoTU claims Naga groups have blocked National Highways 2 and 37 for over a month. This has choked the flow of food, medicine, and fuel into the region. Local prices are spiking. Shelves are going bare. Transport remains the district lifeline for everything from medical gear to groceries.

The group wants the state and federal authorities to tear down these unauthorized checkpoints immediately. They warned that if the roads stay closed, the Kuki-Zo community will start what they described as "appropriate and pre-emptive democratic measures" to protect their rights and security. This push follows months of ethnic conflict in the state, adding a new layer of friction between Kuki and Naga factions in the hills.
