Imphal: The Kuki CSO Working Committee has accused armed attackers linked to the NSCN Eastern Flank of launching a coordinated assault on Mongkot Chepu village in the Litan-Sareikhong belt of Ukhrul. The committee stated the unprovoked attack began at approximately 2:05 PM on May 21, shattering a recent period of relative stability in the region.

According to the group, the confrontation involved intense gunfire and the use of heavy ammunition and explosives, which they claim indicates a deeply organized escalation of conflict. Village volunteers reportedly engaged in self-defense, with the exchange of fire lasting until 5:30 PM. The committee also noted suspicious drone activity over the village on May 19 and 20, which they traced to the nearby village of Sikibung, also known as Sharkaphung.

Beyond the physical conflict, the organization condemned a campaign of weaponized misinformation being spread through social media. They alleged that AI-generated imagery has been used to falsely depict Sikibung as the victim of attacks by Kuki militants. Describing these narratives as dangerous and misleading, the committee warned that they will pursue legal action, including defamation proceedings, against those who continue to circulate false propaganda without evidence.
