Kuki Inpi Organizes Rally to Demand Central Intervention in Manipur

Imphal: Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Manipur on June 19 to protest the ongoing instability in the region. Organized by the Kuki Inpi Manipur and the Committee on Tribal Unity, the Rally for Justice saw residents, students, and community leaders march along National Highway 2 to the Kangpokpi district headquarters.

The procession concluded at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, where organizers submitted a formal memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The group highlighted the deaths of Kuki-Zo civilians and the destruction of numerous villages during recent violence, calling for immediate intervention from the Central Government.

The memorandum includes a seven-point charter of demands. Among these are a judicial inquiry into a recent fatal security operation in the Henglep subdivision, improved security for vulnerable areas, and a thorough review of ceasefire agreements. Addressing reporters, civil society representatives stated, "The rally was intended to draw attention to the concerns of the community and seek timely action from the authorities."

Beyond immediate security measures, the Kuki Inpi also pressed for long-term political solutions and compensation for families displaced by the unrest. The organization urged both State and Central officials to restore safety and confidence between the Kuki-Zo and Naga communities to ensure lasting peace in the region.
