Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex organization for Kuki tribes, has formally requested the Government of India to terminate all ceasefire agreements with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim and its affiliated groups. Representatives submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner on June 19, 2026, citing a severe breakdown in relations between the Kuki-Zo and Naga communities.

Recent instability has resulted in the destruction of 11 Kuki villages and the deaths of 14 civilians. The organization specifically called for justice regarding these fatalities and the death of Lenminsang, who was killed in a reported fake encounter in Songkong village on June 16. The Kuki Inpi Manipur warned that favoring demands from the United Naga Council without addressing Kuki-Zo concerns would be seen as evidence of state bias.

Tensions remain high as the United Naga Council continues to press for the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant factions. Meanwhile, the Kuki leadership maintains that the NSCN-IM is fueling regional violence. The memorandum states, "KIM has alleged that the NSCN-IM is directly or indirectly involved in violence and intimidation tactics that threaten the Kuki-Zo population."

Beyond the ceasefire, the group is calling for the immediate deployment of security personnel to vulnerable areas and a thorough investigation into the village burnings. These escalating ethnic grievances continue to disrupt the region, frequently triggering mass protests and economic blockades.
