Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur slammed the state government this week. The apex Kuki body hit back at Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam for hinting at leniency for members of the Arambai Tenggol. The Minister suggested the state would skip further arrests if the group surrendered their illegal weapons. He claimed to have cleared this approach with the state police chief.
KIM leaders rejected the offer immediately. They labeled the Minister's words as “deeply disturbing, disgraceful and unacceptable.” The group denies the Arambai Tenggol is a civil society outfit. Instead, they classify the organization as a radical armed group responsible for violence against Kuki-Zo people since the conflict began in May 2023.
The group claims the state is shielding attackers. They point to widespread reports of killings and property destruction as evidence of a pattern of persecution. KIM insists that halting legal action against the group destroys any hope for justice. They want the Minister to retract his statements and demanded the prosecution of all perpetrators involved in the ongoing violence.
The group maintains the state administration has failed to act with impartiality. This breakdown in trust fuels their push for a separate administrative arrangement. They believe this is the only way to keep their community safe. KIM now urges the authorities to drop the talk of immunity and enforce the law across the board.
