Kuki Groups Demand Probe After Fire Destroys Homes in Manipur's Kangpokpi District

Imphal: A fire gutted five houses in Kharam Vaiphei village, located in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, on May 30. Local reports allege that unidentified armed individuals set the buildings ablaze around 2:15 pm near the Leimakhong area. No casualties were reported following the incident.

The destruction occurred on the same day Kuki-Zo groups organized rallies across the region to demand justice for three slain church leaders and the release of 14 hostages. In response, the Kuki Inpi Manipur condemned the attack and called on security agencies to launch a transparent investigation to identify those responsible for the violence.

The Kuki Students' Organisation also expressed alarm regarding the security situation and urged officials to bolster protection for residents in vulnerable areas. While community leaders are pushing for government action to prevent further instability, authorities had yet to provide a formal statement on the incident by late Saturday evening.
