Imphal: Hundreds of Kuki community members, primarily women, gathered in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Sunday night to demand uniform security operations. Braving inclement weather, the demonstrators converged outside the Superintendent of Police office before marching along National Highway-2 toward the Deputy Commissioner office.
Protestors raised slogans against what they described as selective enforcement measures that unfairly target the Kuki community. During the demonstration, participants emphasized that they are seeking justice for all victims of violence rather than resisting lawful governance. One participant stated, "the demonstration was intended to seek accountability and equal treatment under the law rather than oppose security measures or lawful governance."
The group called for transparent investigations into several high-profile incidents that remain unresolved. Specifically, they demanded clarity regarding the deaths of fourteen Kuki civilians, three church leaders, six Naga individuals, and the case of David Thiek, which involved the reported mutilation of victims. They insisted that the government and security agencies must ensure all investigations proceed without ethnic bias.
The protest ended peacefully late at night. Organizers warned that further democratic agitation may follow if their concerns regarding accountability and the fair application of the law are not addressed by the authorities.
