Kohima: Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem chaired a District Water and Sanitation Mission meeting on August 6, 2026, at his office in Kohima. The session focused on the 16th Finance Commission. Officials mapped out a path to align various government departments for the Gram Panchayat Development Plan.
The Public Health Engineering Department now holds the lead. They must build the annual action plan village by village. Once finished, they will hand the list over to the Rural Development Department for upload to the official portal. It is a tight schedule. The Deputy Commissioner ordered the Public Health Engineering Department to finish the work and stick to every deadline.
Success depends on unity. All line departments must work together and stay in the loop to avoid delays. Projects must solve real problems. As the official report noted, the selection of GPDP projects "should be based on the needs of rural communities and aimed at providing maximum benefit to the people."
The group also vetted the technical process for portal uploads and inter-departmental coordination. More meetings are coming. These future sessions will keep the project on track to ensure smooth implementation across the region.
