Kohima: Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem launched the Ward 19 app on October 15. The ceremony took place at the Central Plaza multi-level car parking facility. Councillor Medoviu Martin Suohu developed the tool to bridge the gap between residents and ward authorities. It replaces reliance on basic messaging groups.
The app currently features a grievance portal, a gallery for development projects, a council directory, and emergency contacts. Version 2.0 will add a business directory for local entrepreneurs and service providers. Future updates include live GPS tracking for garbage trucks and online sanitation fee payments. The app aims to simplify how people interact with their local government.
Buchem highlighted the need for better waste management. He urged residents to segregate wet and dry waste at the source. He also demanded better pet control and parking habits. "The responsibility for a clean Kohima begins at home," he said. He believes that lasting change requires a shift in public attitude.
Suohu donated a laptop, printer, and walkie-talkies to the ward during the event. He also announced that a new ward cemetery should open in December. KMC Chief Executive Officer Alemyapang Longchar and Ward 19 Council chairman Kekhruhol Mekro attended the launch. Rosemary presided over the event, while Oto Angami offered the welcome address.
