Imphal: The Kamjong Headquarters Working Committee has issued a formal response to the Kuki Women’s Union, arguing that a recent press release from the group provided an incomplete view of the current situation in Kamjong District. The committee expressed concern that while the women's union focused on movement restrictions near Chassad, it ignored the severe hardships caused by a long-term blockade of National Highway 202.
For several months, travel between Litan and Mahadev has been obstructed, cutting off the primary route connecting the district to the state capital of Imphal. The committee stated that this highway serves as a vital lifeline for residents who rely on the road for medical emergencies, education, essential services, and business operations. The ongoing closure has negatively impacted students, patients, and daily wage earners alike.
Regarding allegations of local restrictions, the committee stated that their own measures were a response to the ongoing blockade of the highway. They explained that when one community restricts access to a major thoroughfare, it forces other groups to take similar steps to ensure their own survival. They emphasized that they have exercised restraint for a significant period before responding.
The committee called for a balanced approach to peace, noting that the restoration of normalcy depends on equal treatment for all communities. They urged the District Administration, the State Government, and central authorities to intervene immediately to ensure that National Highway 202 remains open. They believe that only when free movement is restored for all citizens can the region achieve equitable access to markets and end the cycle of mistrust and suffering.
