Guwahati: Guwahati’s Kamakhya temple opened its doors on Friday morning following the conclusion of the annual Ambubachi Mela. Thousands of pilgrims crowded the site before dawn to catch a glimpse of the deity after the shrine stayed shut for days. The doors remained locked since Monday evening to mark the time Goddess Kamakhya undergoes her yearly menstrual cycle.

Priests performed a ritual bath and specialized worship to prepare the space for public entry. Temple staff managed the heavy flow of people as they waited to pray. "The temple doors will remain open till sunset today. We hope that the devotees can have a peaceful darshan," a temple official said.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that over eight lakh people attended the festival this year. He highlighted the event's importance on social media, noting that it reflects the core of Nari Shakti within the history of Assam. The Mela consistently draws massive crowds, topping previous years where attendance hovered around 7.7 lakh.
