JNIMS Relief Committee Marks 25 Years of Aid to Protest Victims

Imphal: The Relief Committee of JNIMS Hospital celebrated its Silver Jubilee today at the Medical Superintendent Office lecture hall. The event marked 25 years of medical assistance to those injured during public movements and crises across the state. Attendees observed two minutes of silence to honor those who lost their lives in past agitations, and organizers unveiled a souvenir titled Memorabilia to commemorate the milestone.

Relief Committee Chairman Thoidingjam Bon recounted the group's history, noting it was established in 2001 during the mass movement against the extension of a ceasefire agreement. Since then, the organization has leveraged support from hospital authorities and the public to treat 932 injured persons. Bon emphasized the committee's commitment to those affected by civil unrest, stating, "The committee has been providing medical assistance to injured persons from relief camps, protest sites and village defence groups."

The committee's aid reach is extensive. It supported 439 people during the 2004 protests following the death of Thangjam Manorama under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. Additionally, the group provided care to 2,463 individuals impacted by the Inner Line Permit movement, the Sapam Robinhood agitation, and the conflict that began on May 3, 2023. Beyond direct medical care, the committee helps patients access benefits through government health schemes like CMHT and PMJAY and has pledged to continue these services.
