Guwahati: Japanese Encephalitis has killed 10 people in Assam this year. State records confirm 42 cases of the mosquito-borne virus so far. Kamrup leads the death toll with three fatalities. Barpeta and Lakhimpur each lost two people, while single deaths occurred in Kamrup Metro, Cachar, and Jorhat.

Acute Encephalitis Syndrome is also hitting the state hard. Authorities counted 519 cases and 36 deaths from the syndrome this year. Experts point to the monsoon as a driver for these outbreaks. The state health department says "JE continues to emerge as a recurring seasonal challenge in Assam, especially in lower and central parts of the state."

Low-lying regions like Nagaon and Morigaon face high risk. Mosquitos breed fast in these areas. Health officials are pushing back with surveillance and training programs. Vaccination rates for adults hit 85 percent in districts like Dhubri and Majuli. The 108 ambulance network now prioritizes rapid transport for anyone showing symptoms. Officials urge people to get shots and report sickness immediately.
