Guwahati: Japan is digging in on its partnership with Assam. Ambassador Ono Keiichi called Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday to confirm Tokyo still backs India’s Act East Policy. The talk follows a scrubbed trip by the Japanese Prime Minister to the region.

Sarma confirmed the call on social media Friday. He laid out a roadmap for growth. They plan to team up on electronics, semiconductors, and infrastructure. Manufacturing and entrepreneurship are also on the table. The state wants more Japanese firms to move in and cut checks for local projects.

Sarma expressed his optimism about the diplomatic outreach. "Delighted to have received a phone call from H.E. Ono Keiichi, the Ambassador of Japan to India last evening. He reaffirmed the Japanese Government's commitment to deepen its ongoing partnership with Assam under India's Act East Policy," Sarma wrote. Officials hope this push will bring new economic life to the state soon.
