Kohima: The Department of Power held an awareness event at the Women Welfare Hall in Jalukie Town on July 15. Officials addressed the rollout of smart meters and the rooftop solar scheme. Attendees included community leaders and local council members. It is time for change.

Er. Tsiamchi, the Executive Engineer for the Peren Electrical Division, confirmed that the federal government is driving the nationwide smart meter transition. The division has already finished installing 1,890 units. These devices allow users to track consumption and pick between prepaid or postpaid plans. They are also required for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana rooftop solar program. Tsiamchi noted, "the installation of smart meters was a Government of India initiative implemented nationwide as part of power sector reforms."

EAC Jalukie Sizin Renttah asked the public to ditch their skepticism. He wants residents to use power carefully to avoid waste. Technicians from ANVIL led a session on how these meters modernize distribution and boost billing transparency. The department is now tracking areas where residents resist the new equipment.

Miile Puro of A&D Solar presented details on the rooftop solar program. He outlined two options: the cheaper On-grid system without batteries and the pricier Hybrid system featuring battery backup. The presentation covered the loan process for business owners and state workers. SDO N. David Richa chaired the meeting, while JE Pezieying Iheilung provided the welcome. JE Shanchothung Odyuo offered the final vote of thanks after a public question period.
