J Infratech Faces Allegations of Child Labour and Gas Misuse on Assam Highway Project

Guwahati: J Infratech Pvt. Ltd. faces heat for illegal practices on the National Highway 127B project. Locals in the Dhubri and Kokrajhar districts claim the firm is using domestic LPG cylinders for construction work rather than commercial fuel. Residents say the company even hands out these subsidized cylinders to site labourers.

Reports of child labour also plague the project. People in the area claim minor children perform heavy lifting at various sites. When media teams arrived at one location, supervisors fled the scene. Critics now target the Food and Civil Supplies Department for failing to crack down on the suspected violations.

Community activists want an immediate inquiry. They told the press that "local residents and workers, the company has allegedly been using domestic LPG cylinders for construction-related activities instead of commercial cylinders, raising concerns over possible violations of regulations governing LPG usage." Officials have yet to respond to the mounting pressure.
