Itanagar Mandates Blue Storefronts as Street Vendor Cleanup Continues

Itanagar: The Itanagar Municipal Corporation ordered all local shop owners to paint their storefronts blue by July 10. This mandate follows the Clean Itanagar Mission, a project designed to tidy up the city and manage urban sprawl. The change comes fast.

City officials cleared roadside encroachments at Ganga Market on June 27 to break up traffic gridlock. Many vendors lost their spots during the sweep. Mayor Likha Nari Tadar promised those displaced workers a new home within two months. The city plans to build a designated vending zone featuring blue sheds.

The mayor told vendors that a site is ready and asked for their help as crews build the new stalls. "A suitable site has already been identified for the proposed vending zone and sought their cooperation while the necessary infrastructure is developed," Tadar said. Street sellers remain cautious. They want the city to follow the Street Vendors Act of 2014, which mandates that the Town Vending Committee manage the process.

The corporation claims the new zone will provide a clean, safe, and organized spot for business. Officials hope these moves will fix traffic issues while keeping the streets open for everyone. Shopkeepers and vendors must comply to avoid further friction.
