Itanagar Launches GPS Garbage Tracker to Clean Up City Streets

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu pushed the button on a new GPS-enabled app October 2. The mobile tool tracks garbage trucks across Itanagar in real time. Itanagar Municipal Corporation built the tech to fix local sanitation gaps. The launch coincided with Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas 2026 under the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.

Khandu hit the Banquet Hall in Niti Vihar alongside Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, MLA Techi Kaso, Mayor Likha Nari Tadar, and Deputy Mayor Tok Tebin Camdir. He started the morning at Gandhi Udyan Park to honor Mahatma Gandhi. Now, residents can check truck locations on their phones. People can drop off waste as soon as a truck nears their home.

The app handles more than tracking. Users can upload photos of overflowing bins directly to an IMC dashboard. The system forces accountability by requiring before and after photos of cleaned sites. Officials track these images to see if crews actually did their jobs. Khandu noted the app makes waste collection "smarter, faster and more responsive."

The Chief Minister wants clean streets. He urged locals to make sanitation a habit rather than just a chore. Government teams cannot do it alone. Residents must step up to keep the state capital clean. The city is betting that better data leads to less trash.

The Swachh Bharat Diwas event went beyond just the app launch. It centered on a wider state push to get locals involved in hands-on waste management. Officials are banking on this community-first approach to beef up civic services and scrub the capital city clean.

Khandu took the pitch to social media, confirming on X that the tool is a core technology-driven initiative meant to clean up city operations. The app aims to cut down on missed collections and reduce the time residents spend waiting for trucks.
