Itanagar: The administration of the Itanagar Capital Region has officially banned the commercial slaughter of Mithuns. Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu issued the order on Wednesday, citing regulations under the Agricultural Produce Marketing Act of 1989 and the Essential Commodities Act of 1955.

Any individual caught violating this ban will face a fine of Rs 20,000. To ensure compliance, the vice-chairperson of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee will lead a special monitoring team. The local police departments in Itanagar and Naharlagun have been instructed to assist the committee with enforcement efforts when necessary.

In a related effort to improve public order, the Itanagar Municipal Corporation has ordered the removal of all meat, fruit, and vegetable stalls situated along the NH-415 stretch. Officials stated that these roadside businesses contribute to significant traffic congestion and create potential public health risks. Vendors have been granted a 10 day window to dismantle their temporary structures and clear the area.
