Agartala: Tripura has launched a new International Hevea Clone Museum at the Taranagar Farm in Agartala to bolster global rubber research and genetic conservation. The facility, which operates under the Rubber Research Institute of India, serves as a specialized repository for high-quality rubber clones gathered from across the world.

Apurba Roy, Secretary of Agriculture for the Government of Tripura, formally inaugurated the project by planting the first set of international clones. The collection includes elite genetic materials sourced from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, and the Ivory Coast. These resources are intended to support long-term crop improvement and the broader sustainable development of the rubber industry.

Joining the inauguration were Dr. Debabrata Ray, Director of the Rubber Research Institute of India, alongside regional officials Anjan Sengupta and N. Sali. During the planting event, organizers emphasized that the museum will function as a central hub for the preservation and demonstration of advanced genetic resources of Hevea brasiliensis. Officials highlighted that the initiative will support "crop improvement programmes, genetic diversification, and sustainable development of the rubber sector in the region."
