Indian Army Investigates Alleged Assault of Sikkim Taxi Driver

Gangtok: The Indian Army is working with local authorities to investigate an alleged altercation between military personnel and taxi drivers in the Zero Point and Shivmandir area of North Sikkim. The probe follows widespread social media reports claiming that a local driver was physically assaulted by Army personnel at Lachung Zero Point.

In a formal response, the Indian Army stated that it is currently reviewing the details of the encounter in coordination with local police and civil administration. Officials noted that further information will be released once the facts of the incident are confirmed.

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) Chalak Wing and the Sarathi Welfare Board have issued a joint statement condemning the alleged assault. While expressing deep concern, the groups emphasized their respect for the military. The organizations said, "The Indian Army is known for its discipline, professionalism and service to the nation."

State Chalak Coordinator Dichen Bhutia is currently at the site to review the situation alongside Station House Officer Tilak Chettri. The organizations are calling for an immediate and impartial investigation to ensure accountability and maintain public trust.
