Guwahati: India will host the BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies meeting in Guwahati this July 6 and 7. Senior officials from member nations gather to harden their stance against the global drug trade. The Narcotics Control Bureau, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, will organize the two-day summit.
Delegates face a changing threat. Traffickers now rely on darknet markets, cryptocurrency, and synthetic substances. These criminals move fast. The meeting will focus on three priorities: stopping precursor chemical diversion, improving operational coordination, and sharing intelligence to stay ahead of these networks.
India plans to highlight its domestic strategy during the event. The country recently launched its Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026-2029 to boost institutional capacity. Officials intend to show that a mix of strict enforcement and community-led rehabilitation works. India's BRICS Chairmanship operates under the theme, "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability."
Participants will break into six sessions. They will talk about using digital tech for real-time interdiction and cutting off supply chains. The summit ends with a formal agreement. India aims to tighten ties between the eleven member nations, which include Russia, China, and Brazil.
