Imphal: Manipur is betting big on tech. Authorities picked Imphal West as a model district to build a digital health ecosystem that links small clinics and major hospitals. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and National Health Authority rolled out the plan during a recent workshop.
Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority, told the crowd that the state must plug into the national grid. The shift aims to fix record-keeping and speed up patient care. Digital identifiers like the Ayushman Bharat Health Account and various registries will act as the backbone for this new setup.
Barnwal warned that institutions lagging behind the tech curve will struggle. He pushed for a unified digital platform to bridge current service gaps. "This initiative will bring all healthcare facilities starting from small clinics to big hospitals under a single digital platform," he said.
The move responds to a rising demand for fast, tech-driven services. Nationally, the PMJAY scheme handles over 80,000 treatments daily. The government has spent nearly Rs 1.9 lakh crore on these services for 12 crore patients over the last seven years.
