IMD Issues Storm Alert for Assam Districts

Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department issued an immediate weather alert today. Thunderstorms and lightning will hit parts of Assam within the next few hours. Light to moderate rain is also on the way.

The Guwahati Meteorological Centre predicts bad weather in Barpeta, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, and Nalbari. The system remains active for one to three hours. Lightning poses a real threat.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority urges caution. Residents should stay inside. "People have also been asked not to take shelter under trees or near electric poles due to the risk of lightning strikes," the advisory stated.

Drivers should expect low visibility and slick roads. Traffic disruptions are likely. Local emergency teams are on standby to handle any incidents. This follows weeks of flooding and heavy rain across the state. Authorities are monitoring conditions closely and ask the public to ignore rumors and stick to official updates.
