ICAR-KVK Hosts Soil Health and Organic Farming Workshop for West Garo Hills Farmers

Shillong: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra in West Garo Hills held an awareness programme on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to promote the Khet Bachao Abhiyan initiative. The event, held at the KVK campus in Tura, brought together local farmers and agricultural experts to discuss sustainable farming practices.

Bernard N. Marak, BJP leader and Tura MDC, served as the chief guest for the session. He encouraged attendees to utilize green manuring and composting while leveraging locally available resources to boost soil health and maintain productivity. Marak praised the work being done by ICAR-KVK to educate the community on natural and organic farming techniques.

Addressing the audience, Marak spoke about the broader goal of regional food independence. He stated, "Highlighting the vision of Atmanirbhar Krishi, he stressed the need for making Meghalaya self-reliant in agriculture."

The event also featured insights from regional officials, including Anish Momin, District President of the BJP in West Garo Hills, and Prodeep Sangma, Deputy Project Director of ATMA in West Garo Hills. KVK staff and a significant turnout of local farmers participated in the day's proceedings.
