Itanagar: The Indian Air Force launched an emergency airlift Wednesday to rush rescue crews into flooded pockets of Keyi Panyor. Flash floods swamped the Poosa area, forcing the state into a massive response effort.

Keyi Panyor Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta requested urgent help to move State Disaster Response Force teams and supplies. The Department of Civil Aviation contacted the Eastern Air Command in Shillong to get the job done. The mission moved fast. An IAF plane braved bad weather to land at Hollongi before hitting Pitapool to drop off the rescue squads.

State officials are monitoring the rising water to see if more flights are needed. They publicly thanked the crews for the high-stakes mission. "They also acknowledged the efforts of Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, the district police and disaster management teams on the ground for supporting rescue operations despite difficult conditions."

Local authorities continue to push for more relief as the district deals with the damage. Disaster Management Secretary Dani Salu and Civil Aviation Secretary M. Riba are overseeing the ongoing coordination.
