Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday. He checked on the status of the Dhemaji district floods. The region is currently struggling with heavy water damage. Sarma briefed the Home Minister on ongoing rescue and recovery work.

Nearly 16,000 people across 69 villages are trapped by rising water. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reports four revenue circles are under heavy stress. Sarma confirmed he is coordinating with ministers on the ground. Water Resources Minister Susanta Borgohain and Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta are staying in the district to manage the response.

Sarma noted the federal commitment to the state. "He has also assured us all possible support and assistance from the Government of India to deal with this situation," Sarma said on social media.

The floods hit regional transit hard. Northeast Frontier Railway crews halted services after erosion damaged a bridge pier between Archipathar and Simen Chapari. No passengers were hurt. Trains now stop at Silapathar instead of running the full route. Officials opened help desks at three major stations to assist stranded travelers as crews monitor the structural stability of local lines.
