Guwahati: Kaziranga Heritage is back in business. The state's oldest government-run tourist site now operates as a high-end boutique resort after a massive restoration effort. Located across from the Kohora Range gate, this property pairs deep history with modern comfort.
The Assam Tourism Development Corporation teamed up with Centre Point Hospitality Group to finish the project. They kept the original colonial-era bones, including sloping roofs and elevated foundations, while upgrading the site to a 28-room destination. The resort now highlights traditional Assam-type architecture throughout the grounds.
The property features four distinct lodging tiers. The centerpiece remains the Bonani Bungalow, a former British hunting lodge built in the 1910s. Other options include river view cottages and presidential suites. The high-end suites offer, "duplex layouts, landscaped courtyards and private plunge pools, blending luxury with the property's historic ambience."
Designers packed the interiors with local bamboo and cane work, wood floors, and art from regional creators. The site also features historic wildlife photos. Guests can eat at Kazi Nemu, the on-site restaurant serving local plates on handcrafted bell-metal dishes. The partnership aims to boost regional tourism by blending wildlife access with luxury stays.
