Himanta Biswa Sarma Pushes for Assam Dairy and Fisheries Overhaul

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Fisheries and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan Lalan Singh in New Delhi on Thursday. They want more fish. The pair spent the morning mapping out plans to grow Assam into a powerhouse for fish production and exports. They focused on better processing facilities and stronger market access.

Sarma walked away from the meeting with a clear agenda. He intends to fix the value chain to get local products into more markets. The Chief Minister described the interaction as "productive" and noted that the Union Minister provided valuable insights for the state. They will now turn these talks into real work.

The dairy sector also took center stage. Plans include beefing up dairy cooperatives and opening new veterinary medicine centers. Officials want to set up milk powder plants and Tetra Pak processing facilities. They also aim to boost cattle productivity using artificial insemination to ensure the long-term health of the state livestock.
