High Court Orders Meghalaya to Reveal Police Bazar Drug Crime Data

Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya ordered the state government to provide a full accounting of all drug cases filed in Police Bazar. The mandate covers everything from January 2026 to today. This order follows claims from counsel that dealers own the streets.

Shillong’s main tourism hub is struggling. Drug addicts haunt bus shelters and sidewalks all day. Pedestrians face constant harassment and theft, while businesses report a sharp decline in safety. Locals are fed up. They claim periodic police raids achieve almost nothing.

The Federation of Shillong Hotels recently reached out to the Superintendent of Police. They want the streets cleared immediately. Their petition highlighted the "adverse impact on safety and the area’s reputation."

The state government previously submitted an affidavit covering drug seizures and cases from early 2025 through March 2026. The judges now want a clearer picture of the ongoing situation in the district. The case returns to court on August 3, 2026.
