Hagrama Mohilary Halts BTC Evictions for 93 Families

Guwahati: Hagrama Mohilary, chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council, called off all planned evictions in the region. He intends to rehome the 93 families currently living on government land instead of forcing them out. The announcement followed a review meeting in Kajalgaon.

Mohilary confirmed the shift in policy to reporters after assessing progress on local infrastructure and rural projects. "There will be no eviction in the BTC region. The government will make arrangements to rehabilitate the 93 affected families," he said.

Officials from the Public Works Department and local administrative boards updated the chief on ongoing development schemes. The meeting also addressed the push to grant Scheduled Tribe status to six additional communities in Assam. Mohilary noted he supports the change if it does not hurt the existing tribes.

He finished the meeting with a prediction for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He expects Argentina to make the semifinals, but he believes France will win the tournament.
