Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation is taking the fight to crooked fee collectors. Officials met with parking and market leaseholders at the Uzan Bazar headquarters this week to end rampant overcharging. Residents have complained for years about staff demanding more than the official rates.

New rules start now. Every collector must wear a uniform and carry a government-issued ID card. Personnel must only use verified receipt books approved by the corporation. These steps aim to stop scammers from pocketing extra cash at public lots and markets. GMC officials believe these changes will create a more organized system for vendors and commuters alike.

The corporation issued a clear warning to those holding city contracts. The civic body stated, "The initiative will help create a more organized and citizen-friendly parking system." GMC Mayor-in-Council members Gokul Goswami, Asim Saikia, and Shankar Chakraborty oversaw the meeting to ensure leaseholders fall in line.
