Guwahati: Central Guwahati MLA Vijay Kumar Gupta identified the ongoing West Asia crisis as a primary driver behind the sharp increase in fuel prices and broader inflation across India. Speaking to reporters on May 24, Gupta explained that global instability has caused fuel costs to double from roughly Rs 60 to Rs 120, creating a ripple effect that has raised the prices of essential goods and services.

These comments arrive amid growing public concern and organized protests in Assam. Opposition parties and student groups have been staging demonstrations throughout the state to demand government intervention as the rising costs of fuel and medicine put a strain on household budgets.

During his address, Gupta also criticized the state Opposition, suggesting that political rivals in Assam are losing their influence. He remarked that these parties need to reconsider their current leadership and overall political strategy to remain relevant and effective.

The issue of inflation continues to dominate the agenda in the Assam Assembly, highlighting the sharp divide between the ruling BJP and its opponents. As the legislative session continues, both sides remain locked in debate over governance and the management of these mounting economic challenges.
