Guwahati: Top narcotics enforcement officials from 11 emerging economies head to Guwahati this week. India hosts the BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting on July 6 and 7. The Narcotics Control Bureau organized this high-level event. Synthetic drugs and darknet trafficking demand a faster response.

Delegates from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates will attend. They aim to shift from policy talk to operational action. The meeting targets precursor chemical diversion and intelligence gaps. Agencies want to share data on clandestine labs and trafficking routes.

Guwahati sits near the Golden Triangle. This region remains a notorious hotspot for heroin and methamphetamine production. India uses this venue to boost international cooperation against organized crime. Officials will focus on digital surveillance and financial intelligence to track drug money.

The summit includes six thematic sessions. These cover real-time interdiction, digital threats, and public awareness. India’s 2026 BRICS chairmanship focuses on a clear mandate: "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." Leaders expect to sign a Joint Declaration to map out future collaboration. This deal will define how these nations fight transnational cartels.
