Guwahati: Guwahati will host the 10th Chalachitram National Film Festival on October 24 and 25, 2026. The event takes place at the Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio in Kahilipara. Organizers expect a crowd of critics, filmmakers, and fans from across the region.

Chalachitram, a branch of Vishwa Samvad Kendra Assam, puts the event together. They want to showcase films about India’s cultural traditions and heritage. The festival theme is "Our Heritage, Our Pride." Participants must submit works between one and 25 minutes long, produced after September 1, 2025.

Submit your films early. The organizers offer an early bird window with no fee until June 30. Regular entries cost Rs 500 until July 20. The final deadline is September 2 with a Rs 1,000 fee. You can apply via FilmFreeway or email.

The festival hands out trophies and cash for top entries. Categories span across North East and All India selections. Officials including Kishor Shivam and Nava Thakuria hope the festival inspires new work. They want to encourage aspiring filmmakers to use cinema as a medium for social awareness, cultural preservation and nation-building.

Previous years drew over 30 films. Directors tackled tough subjects like mental health and rural folklore. It remains a key spot for independent voices to find an audience.
