Guwahati: Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport will roll out an automated Assamese announcement system in 10 days. The move follows pressure from former DGP Kuladhar Saikia, retired officer Jyotirmoy Chakraborty, and ex-bureaucrat Mukul Chandra Gogoi. They recently protested that Terminal 2 announcements only used Hindi and English.

The group argued that regional language support matters for safety and convenience. Airport bosses defended their current setup, noting that staff and airlines already provide manual updates in Assamese. Technicians hit a snag while testing the new automated system. They found mistakes in script and pronunciation. Crews are fixing those errors now.

The airport authority issued a statement regarding their next steps. They said the project remains a priority, stating, "The automated Assamese announcement system is expected to be operational within the next 10 days." Airlines must now ensure all broadcasts go out in Assamese, Hindi, and English. This mandate aims to keep travel smooth and protect the local cultural identity.
