Guwahati: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati achieved a 15.1 percent increase in cargo handling during the 2025-26 fiscal year. Data shows throughput climbed from 29,155 metric tonnes in 2024-25 to 33,555.99 metric tonnes this past year.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted these figures as evidence of the state’s industrial progress. In a post on X, he stated, “Assam is rapidly emerging as a logistics hub in the region. Last year, Guwahati Airport witnessed a 15.1% YoY jump in cargo handled at 33,555.99 MT. As we look to industrialise and open up more opportunities, we aim to build upon this momentum and boost the cargo logistics sector.”

The government is currently prioritizing the expansion of transport infrastructure to support a broader industrial strategy. Enhanced capacity at the airport is designed to streamline trade, improve regional connectivity, and simplify the distribution of agricultural, industrial, and perishable goods to both domestic and international markets.
