Guwahati: The Indian government scrapped temporary restrictions on commercial LPG cylinders. The move takes effect immediately across all states and Union Territories. Officials confirmed the decision follows a fresh review of the situation in West Asia. Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota announced the reversal on Thursday.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed the policy shift. The government aims to restore supply chains to levels seen before the conflict. Kota shared a directive from Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal confirming the news. "The Government of India has reviewed the temporary LPG supply restrictions imposed during the recent West Asia crisis and has decided to restore commercial LPG supplies to pre-crisis levels," the statement read.

Bulk LPG supplies can now rise to half of what they were before the crisis started. Despite the easing of rules, the government is pushing for a permanent shift to Piped Natural Gas. Consumers already hooked up to PNG should stick with it. Oil Marketing Companies must now track all commercial and industrial clients. They will build a unified database to monitor distribution more closely. Officials want users near piped infrastructure to switch over permanently to reduce reliance on bottled gas.
