Guwahati: Google has launched a major initiative to bring artificial intelligence education to schools across India, naming Assam as one of the key regions for its new educator training program. Revealed at the Education World Forum 2026 in London, the project aims to integrate AI tools into classrooms while aligning with the National Education Policy 2020.

The Google AI Educator Series will be implemented in collaboration with the governments of Assam, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, as well as Ladakh and the Punjab School Education Board. To ensure the tools are accessible, Google is launching the modules in six regional languages, including Assamese. This localization effort is designed to help teachers utilize platforms like Gemini to personalize lessons and improve student engagement.

Beyond its local state partnerships, Google has formed a three-year global agreement with UNICEF. This wider effort covers India, Brazil, Pakistan, and Kenya, focusing on improving literacy and numeracy. Educators will be introduced to specific tools such as ReadAlong and NotebookLM to support reading fluency and classroom research. UNICEF plans to track the project's success through annual reports to measure its impact on closing digital divides across the region.
