Imphal: Goa Police arrested a high-ranking member of the banned People’s Liberation Army on June 19. Officers from the Goa Crime Branch apprehended the suspect, identified as Nongthongbam Ingo, in the South Goa town of Margao.
Ingo, who also uses the aliases Krishna and Lal, held the rank of self-styled Lieutenant Colonel within the Manipur-based insurgent group. Intelligence officials tracked him to Goa shortly after he arrived in the state on June 16.
The arrest stems from a criminal case registered at the Lilong Police Station in the Thoubal district of Manipur. Ingo was wanted under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for his alleged involvement in militant activities. According to police, he had managed to evade capture for over two decades. Authorities stated, "Ingo had been on the run for more than 20 years and was among the wanted accused in the case."
The investigation leading to this breakthrough began on June 5, when Manipur police arrested two other insurgents linked to an extortion case. Evidence recovered during that inquiry provided the critical details needed to locate Ingo. Following his detention, the Goa Crime Branch transferred the suspect into the custody of Manipur police to face pending legal charges.
