Imphal: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has issued an urgent appeal for the release of six remaining Naga hostages who remain in captivity amidst the ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur. While the forum acknowledged the recent release of 14 individuals from both sides of the conflict as a positive development, it expressed grave concern regarding the continued detention of those still unaccounted for.

Highlighting the humanitarian crisis, the GNF noted that families of the missing are enduring significant distress due to a complete lack of information regarding their condition or current location. The forum has criticized the perceived inaction of state and central authorities, noting that there has been no tangible progress or clarity provided to the public despite the ongoing efforts to resolve the situation.

Addressing the Kuki Inpi Manipur and relevant militant groups, the GNF requested that the detainees be released immediately. Recognizing the difficulty of the circumstances, the organization emphasized that authorities should at the very least confirm the status of the hostages, whether alive or deceased, to provide some measure of closure to their grieving families.

In its statement, the forum called upon both the Naga and Kuki communities to exercise restraint and prioritize the sanctity of human life. By invoking shared values and mutual respect, the GNF expressed hope that immediate action will be taken to prevent further escalation and to keep pathways for long-term peace and reconciliation open.
