Guwahati: Chanda Taid, 11, died July 29 after falling into the Dihing River at Laibil in Nitaipukhuri. The river was overflowing. She slipped into the floodwaters while standing near the bank. Local residents tried to pull her out, but the current proved too strong.
She could not be saved. The young girl was the daughter of Bulbul Taid. The tragedy struck Dimow, located in the Sivasagar district of Assam. Neighbors gathered at the riverbank to mourn the loss of the child.
The incident warns of dangerous monsoon conditions. Rising water levels and rapid currents make riverbanks deadly. Local authorities and police arrived at the scene once they heard the news. Residents now demand better safety for kids. They urged neighbors to be vigilant, stating, "keep children away from flooded rivers, streams and waterlogged areas."
