Guwahati: Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party for focusing on political dominance rather than national governance. Speaking in New Delhi, Gogoi argued that the ruling party is ignoring pressing issues like the devaluing rupee, support for MSMEs, and migration concerns. He claimed that these core challenges will persist as long as the current administration prioritizes securing control over serving the public.

Gogoi stated, "The BJP is in power in Bengal today. They ought to serve the people and act upon the promises made in their manifesto. Instead, they are preoccupied with capturing power."

The critique arrives as the Trinamool Congress deals with internal instability. In less than a week, three Rajya Sabha members have resigned. Following the departures of Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Sushmita Dev, Prakash Chik Baraik stepped down on Thursday, citing public sentiment as his primary motivation. Speculation regarding a shift toward the National Democratic Alliance increased after Baraik was spotted visiting the home of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

Organizational fractures continue to widen within the Trinamool Congress. Rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee claims to have the backing of 64 out of the party's 80 West Bengal MLAs. Additionally, MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar confirmed that 20 party members have formally requested new seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha. Despite reports of a meeting between TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party has officially denied any plans to merge with the Trinamool Congress.
