Guwahati: Gaurav Gogoi ripped into the Centre and State governments on June 27. The APCC President blamed a breakdown in coordination for the sudden cancellation of the Japanese Prime Minister's visit to Assam. He shot down official excuses, claiming administrative incompetence killed the trip. He refused to let the administration off the hook.
"The government should not shift the blame for its own negligence onto the people of Assam," Gogoi said. He demanded officials take responsibility rather than pointing fingers at the public.
The Congress leader also shifted focus to the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. He remains confident in a strong showing for his party. Gogoi expects a direct fight against the BJP and predicts a wide victory margin for his candidate. The party machine is already turning for the contest.
Gogoi closed by addressing the recently finished Ambubachi Mela. He gave credit to the administration for holding the religious event without major hitches. Still, he called the current visitor facilities inadequate. He argued that officials must beef up infrastructure and amenities before the next festival to better serve the thousands of devotees who travel to the state.
